Breeding Lines: Dairy Cows :
Pure Jersey, Pure Holstein and Holstien Cross.
Dairy Goats : Registered Nubian, Registered Nigerian, Saanen, Alpine
Medical Intervention Used: Nativo Farms does not use hormones or steroids.
In the event of an emergency or animal illness, Herbal, holistic non toxic remedies are administered as a first course . If we feel the animal requires stronger medications we will administer an antibiotic (only if absolutly needed)
In the event an animal becomes ill or needs treatment, the animal is completely removed from milking and no milk will be withheld until the animal has fully recovered.
Herd Health Tests & Frequency: Animals are tested for TB & Brucellosis every 3 years.
Humane Treatment Practices: shelter, feed, water, handling & care
Cows are allowed full access to pasture at all times. Goats are allowed to graze for a min. 5 hours per day and then they are housed in a large yard. Cows are only confined for up to one hour per day for the purpose of inspection and milking.
Full cover is available for all animals at all times at their choice. A constant source of clean water is always available. Animals consume grass pasture and grass / alpha hay.
Supplements: Animals are allowed up to 2 combined total pounds of the following natural grain combination per day:
Corn
Oats
Barley
Molasses
Milk Safety: Prior to milking a physical inspection of the animal and her milk is conducted.
The animals teats are thoroughly cleaned and dried prior to milking. Milk is collected into a sterilized surge bucket, immediately filtered, cooled and bottled. All milking equipment is sanitized using a soap, water, and bleach mixture. We do not hand milk!
